Latest developments on Targeted Therapies for Cancer Treatment

At OncoloMed we do like the phrase “Targeted Therapy” even though we see it in a wider context than the cancer worlds definition of it. In the cancer medical terminology targeted therapy is the name of using drugs to attack specific cancer cells. In our book, the definition is so much more; any therapy that is targeted directly against a cancer area or tumor, should be seen as targeted. Like regional chemotherapy, which targets the cancer, not the body.
Here is another example of what is to come on “targeted therapy”, and it may not be to far away. What it is? A rectangular robot as tiny as a few human hairs can travel throughout a colon to deliver drugs by doing back flips.
This is what scientists at Purdue University have managed to achieve – something that could be a real gamechanger for a number of cancer patients, in the video here illustrated with a robot inside a colon.
It is clearly an impressive achievement, and like always, OncoloMed will do our very best to be offering therapies based on this and other cutting edge possibilities, as soon as it available, for our patients. Click the photo below to see how it works:
And why the back flips? Because the goal is to use these robots to transport drugs in humans, whose colons and other organs have rough terrain. Side flips work, too. Very impressive! Read more about this technology here:
